- As I understand things C= laid down specifications for floppy drives and
- said that whatever make of drive they used it would stay within those
- specs. Some games publishers were _furious_ that AT were pointing the
- finger at them, countering they said that it was AT not sticking to the
- previous specifications of drives.
-
- C=, AT, nor any other computer company can expect Software publishers,
- especially games publishers to put their wares out on unprotected disks.
-
- There were several instances of games not working on Amiga and Atari STs
- because the disk protection relied on tracks outside of the specification.
- On some drives they would work on others they would not.

-
- That's what specs and tolerences are for. If the publishers go outside of
- the specs then it is their fault. If the manufacturer change the specs
- then the responsibility should lie there.

-
- It was estimated that early AT A1200s could only run about half of the
- Amiga back catalogue of games. That is *more* than lots. Ok the early AT
- machines probably didn't reach state side, and the problem is now
- reportedly fixed giving 98% compatibility. Some A4000s are reported as not
- being able to run Pinball Mania supplied with the machine.

- : Oh, and ONE item is not 'LOTS'.
-
- Think about it, consumer goes out and buys new A1200 + a new game, Fears.
- 1/3 of your games software doesn't work, assuming the two "games" with the
- machine worked.
-
- IMHO 1/3 is lots. Maybe that's going a bit far. My point is that I think
- the main reason for buying Amiga, currently, is that there is a huge amount
- of low cost (old) software available as well as the new stuff.
